ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Authorities want you to watch out for counterfeit cash after bogus $20 bills were passed at two Rochester area businesses.
A counterfeit $20 bill was reported at Newt's downtown location on Friday, according to Rochester police.
Two counterfeit $20 bills were also passed at Margarito's Mexican Restaurant in Byron late last month, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office. That bogus money was found after it got to the bank.
Authorities have a few tips on how to spot fake bills.
Legitimate bills have ridges that can be felt scraping a fingernail across the bill. Another tipoff is shading that should change slightly as the bill is tilted. Authorities also suggest looking for watermarks or comparing the size to other bills.
