Plans move forward for new apartment building in Rochester

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- The Rochester Planning and Zoning Commission approved recommendations for a new mixed-use development Wednesday night.

Called River Bend Apartments, it would hold a 4-story 86 unit apartment building with underground and surface parking.

There would also be a 4,800 square foot retail building.

The property is located west of North Broadway and Wendy's, north of the South Fork of the Zumbro River and south of the Northbrook Shopping Center.

The area used to be an RV campground and before that, a mobile home park.

The apartment building would have efficiency, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments.

Silver Lake Motorcoach Resort, LLC won't say if they know what company would move into the retail building.

Nick Campion, chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission, says it would compliment Rochester's Downtown Master Plan.

"Infill developments are something we get really excited about, in terms of opportunities for development. It really fits with the masterplan of the city of getting more of our people living downtown using those alternative methods to travel around, reducing some of the congestion on some of the roadways," Campion said.

Rochester City Council will hold a public hearing on the development on October 15.

They will then vote to approve or deny plans.

Silver Lake Motorcoach Resort, LLC hopes to start construction on the 3 acres before the end of the year.
