BYRON, Minn. (FOX 47) -- The teenage driver who struck a school bus just north of Byron Tuesday afternoon has died from her injuries.
Deianerah Jean Logan, 17, was driving a minivan that rear-ended the school bus at the intersection of Olmsted County Road 5 and Dodge County Road 18 just before 3:30 p.m. D.J. or "Deej" was heading home from the first day of school at Byron High School, where she was just beginning her senior year.
Byron School District superintendent Jeff Elstad says only two kids were on the bus before it was rear-ended. One had just gotten off the bus when the minivan hit it. The two students, ages 7 and 11, as well as the bus driver did not sustain serious injuries.
Logan had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was flown to Saint Marys Hospital by Mayo One.
Olmsted County Road 5 reopened at about 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, after a mapping investigative unit from the Rochester Police Department worked the scene.
A spokesman for Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home says a funeral service for Deianerah Jean Logan will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Community Celebration Church in Byron. Visitation for family and friends will be at the church on Friday from 5-8 p.m.
