UTICA, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A Utica family has started to rebuild after a fire destroyed their home earlier this month.
Worse -- this isn't the first time the Seefeldt family has taken a big hit after a fire.
When a fire destroyed North Star Foods in St. Charles in April of 2009, it left former manager Jamie Seefeldt unemployed.
"It's been a struggle for the last three years, no question about it," Seefeldt said.
Earlier this month, another fire -- this time at the family's home -- left them again picking up the pieces.
The fire started in an electrical outlet. Firefighters worked to put out the flames as they spread from the porch to the second floor.
"They fought their cans off, they fought for seven hours," Seefeldt said.
And for the family watching -- it was devastating.
"What do you do?" Seefeldt said. "It's going on in front of your eyes and you can't make it stop."
When the fire was out, the family was safe, but their home was destroyed.
"Everything that you ever had or built for in 39 years, it might not have been the nicest house on the block or anything like that, but it was home," Seefeldt said.
What are now charred ruins once held memories for the Seefeldt family.
"To not have those stories I guess, is the toughest, it's not the material things, it's the story behind them," Seefeldt said.
So a new chapter is about to begin for Jamie, Chrisy, and their three children.
"You know we've been unlucky a couple of times and it looks like we're just reinvigorated enough to take on another fight," Seefeldt said.
The family hasn't been alone in dealing with the fire's aftermath.
"I bet you I cried 206 times. It wasn't over the stuff that I lost, it was from the outpouring of the people around us," Seefeldt said.
It's that support from the community that makes moving forward possible.
