Man arrested in recent home burglaries

Updated:

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for two recent home burglaries in Rochester.

Ramone Newell, 27, was arrested at 18th Ave. NW and 41st St. after he allegedly used stolen debit cards at convenience stores in Eyota and Rochester. Police used surveillance video to identify Newell.

He allegedly entered unlocked homes on August 3 and 6 and stole purses and wallets. Police say Newell has a long history with law enforcement. He was wanted on a Goodhue County driving violation warrant and had a felony pending for alleged window peeping in Winona.

Newell was also recently released from jail and was required to register as a level 3 sex offender. He gave police a Chicago address, but they have no record of him living or registering in Illinois. Police believe he has been living in southeast Minnesota, possibly in Eyota or Winona. They are asking for the public's help to prove the violation.
