NEAR HAYFIELD, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A Stewartville school bus driver has been charged with third degree DUI after a sheriff's deputy smelled alcohol on his breath.
40-year-old Robert Mielke, of Stewartville, was driving bus #97 for Engel Bus Service in the Hayfield area near Himle Park just before 9 a.m. Monday when his "poor driving conduct" was reported to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, according to a media release.
Mielke was driving children to ZED summer school classes, but they had all been dropped off by the time a deputy found the bus.
The deputy spoke with Mielke, smelled alcohol on his breath and arrested him. Mielke was held overnight in jail and appeared in District Court Tuesday morning. He was released with court-imposed restrictions and is scheduled to be in court August 8.
