No decision on iPads in Rochester schools - KXLT - Fox 47 Rochester MN News, Weather and Sports

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- After much anticipation the Rochester School Board did not vote Tuesday evening on whether or not to purchase an iPad for every student in the district. Instead the board decided to table the discussion until next months meeting.

It's a hot topic among parents, school officials and certainly tax payers in the community to purchase iPads, or not.

Before the meeting some residents discussed their concerns with having the latest technology in classrooms, only one person who spoke was in favor. Just to re-cap purchasing iPads is all part of a 3-year technology plan. For the past month the district has been reviewing different options for technology upgrades. Option one involves replacing old desktop computers. Option 2 involves purchasing 15-thousand ipads, that's one for every student and option 3 involves purchasing 15-thousand ipads, plus extra technology for hard-of-hearing students.

One concerned citizen says we need hard data that ipads are beneficial before we move forward. 

A special session to discuss the iPads more in-depth is set to take place within the next couple of weeks. This issue is once again set to be voted on at next months meeting.
