ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Rochester police are warning check cashing businesses to be on the lookout for scams.
On Wednesday, a man and woman tried cashing fake payroll checks at the Pawn America and Payday America, both on South Broadway.
Employees at both places were able to spot the phony checks, but investigators worry other businesses might not look as closely.
One check was written for $800, the other for around $4,000.
Both included bank information that does not exist, and the business address was made up.
No suspect description is available for the woman, but the man is described as white, in his mid 20s, with brown hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and a backpack.
If you have any information that could help investigators, please call Rochester Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
