ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A storm system now taking shape to our northwest in British Columbia, Canada is looking a little stronger than we'd previously been thinking and may bring several inches of fresh snowfall to our area for Thursday.
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the entire KTTC viewing area from 6:00 AM Thursday through midnight Thursday, as six or more inches of accumulation may be measured in some spots locally.
Right now, it appears the snow event will begin very early Thursday morning, most likely around sunrise with steady snowfall taking place through the day and into the evening.
Southern Minnesota is likely to receive three to six inches of accumulation with parts of northern Iowa near Mason City, Algona, and Charles City receiving six to eight inches of snowfall.
Temperatures will be near the freezing mark, so the snow may be somewhat dense and heavy and fairly sticky.
Temperatures will be colder Thursday night through Friday, though, so a huge meltdown doesn't appear imminent.
This storm has the potential of producing the largest one day snowfall for most of our area this season up to this point and will serve as a reminder that it is still winter, even is it hasn't felt like it for most of the past couple of months.
