Investigators: Winona abduction attempt unfounded

Updated:

WINONA, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Investigators now say an abduction attempt in the town of Homer, near Winona was "unfounded."

Last week, an 11-year-old boy walking to the bus stop said two men in a red pickup truck pulled up and the man on the passenger side rolled down the window and ordered him to "get in."

According to the Winona Daily News, a man contacted the Winona County Sheriff's Office on Saturday morning and said he thought he might be one of the men who approached the boy.  The man told investigators he and a friend were searching for a lost hunting dog and were trying to ask the boy if he had seen the dog.

When spoken to, the boy quickly ran to a neighbor's house for help.

Investigators say the men's story was thoroughly checked.
